Cedar Rapids, IA, Accessibility Project

Following an accidental fall, a Cedar Rapids, Iowa homeowner faced significant safety hazards navigating the sunken, uneven concrete pathway around their property. Differential slab settlement had created raised concrete edges and open cracks, making the walkway dangerous to traverse, particularly for someone using a walker. System Design Specialist Shawn Conaway inspected the exterior flatwork and identified sub-slab soil erosion as the root cause of the settlement. Shawn designed a non-destructive concrete repair plan combining PolyLevel® Concrete Leveling with NexusPro® Joint Sealant through MidAmerica Basement Systems.

Foreman Ricky Sigala and crew member Jaylen mobilized to execute the precision lifting and sealing process. First, Ricky and Jaylen drilled dime-sized injection ports through the settled concrete slabs. They inserted injection nozzles and pumped a two-part expansion geopolymer foam beneath the concrete. Upon injection, the high-density liquid expanded, compacting weak subgrade soils and exerting upward hydraulic pressure to lift the sunken slabs back flush with the surrounding pathway.

Once the walkway was fully leveled, the team cleaned out all open joints and surface cracks, applying NexusPro Joint Sealant across the entire path. This silicone-based sealant cures quickly, resists harsh UV exposure, and remains permanently flexible, preventing future rainwater from washing away the subgrade soil. The crew capped the small injection holes with matching concrete compound and thoroughly cleaned the site. The restored pathway completely eliminated trip hazards, providing the homeowner with a smooth, safe, and fully accessible walkway.

Concrete Stairs Stabilized in Cedar Rapids, IA

Wash-out are commonly found under concrete slabs, making it unstable, and leads to sinking and caving into the void. PolyLevel helps fill the void and provides a stable area for the concrete. PolyLevel uses high-density polymers that react to fill in the void, and expand to lift, level and stabilize concrete. The high capacity lifting strength allows for the concrete stairs to effortlessly lift and stabilize, using a waterproof material that will not wash out like soil.

Leaking Foundation Floor has Waterproof System Installed in Cedar Rapids, IA

Jeff was noticing water coming in through his floor and wall joints and quickly contacted MidAmerica Basement Systems. It was proposed having WaterGuard and a TripleSafe installed to address the water issue. WaterGuard was installed along the perimeter of the basement to collect the water, preventing it from surfacing to the floor. A TripleSafe sump was installed to properly discharge the water that is collected by the WaterGuard, keeping the basement dry. Water no longer appears in Jeff’s basement.
