A multi-tenant property in Maquoketa, Iowa, suffered from severe subterranean water seepage, creating damp, hazardous conditions that threatened major mechanical appliances and compromised living comfort for the tenants. Excessive moisture pooling along the floor and foundation walls created ongoing risks of property damage, elevated indoor humidity, and mold growth.
To resolve the water intrusion and establish a permanently dry environment for the occupants, System Design Specialist Tim Rollet evaluated the structure and engineered a sub-floor drainage and multi-stage discharge system utilizing WaterGuard® Interior Drainage and the TripleSafe™ Sump Pump System through MidAmerica Basement Systems.
Foreman Justin Maddox and crew member Devin S. mobilized to execute the installation. The team prepped the interior perimeter floor and embedded the WaterGuard drainage channel atop the concrete footing. Positioning the drain above the mud zone prevents sediment blockages, allowing the channel to intercept wall-footing seepage and redirect flow directly to the discharge pit.
At the primary collection point, the crew installed the TripleSafe sump pump system, featuring a cast-iron primary pump for daily water removal, a secondary high-capacity pump to handle severe torrential inflows, and an UltraSump battery-backup pump to ensure continuous operation during power outages. Justin and Devin S. completed the concrete restoration and site cleanup, delivering a fully protected, reliable basement that safeguards tenant comfort and property value year-round.

Jean’s basement foundation was showing signs of a bowing wall. A large horizontal crack was starting to stretch from one end of the wall to the other. Experts at MidAmerica Basement Systems proposed the installation of a PowerBrace support system. PowerBraces offer a permanent solution to bowing walls. The I-beam system using the home’s wooden floor joist system to properly support the pressure exerted on the failing wall, while evenly distributing the weight of the home. It is critical to properly distribute the weight of the home to prevent damaging the floor system. With proper tightening of the PowerBrace system, the can potentially straighten the wall over time.
In Delmar, IA, a homeowner called us with concerns about the city sidewalk in front of their home. Over time, the concrete had begun to settle, creating an uneven surface which became a tripping hazard.
