New Homeowner Stabilizes and Waterproofs Basement in Waverly, IA
Challenge
Jed had recently purchased a new home that had an existing sump pump system. He soon found out that water was leaking in through the base of his block foundation. The water that was seeping in was starting to collect because it had no way to get to the sump pump. Jed reached out to MidAmerica Basement Systems to have them look at improving his situation.
Solution
During assessment, it was proposed that the old sump pump be replaced by a TripleSafe sump for a more effective system. To address the leaking foundation, WaterGuard and CleanSpace systems were suggested. WaterGuard is a drainage system that directs any water that enters, to the sump pump to avoid pooling and seeping water. Due to the water that was coming in near the bottom of the wall, CleanSpace was applied along the top of the WaterGuard. CleanSpace is a moisture barrier, so it prevents water and moisture from entering the air, while also directing water off the wall, and into the WaterGuard. Another issue that Jed was unaware of was the initial I-beam that was previously installed. The I-beam was installed to prevent the bowing wall from failing. It was made apparent that the I-beam was helping, but not very effectively. The weight and pressure that was coming from the ground pushing on the wall was not properly distributed by the beam. The GeoLock Anchor System was installed to help with the I-beam support. The GeoLock system can potentially reverse the bowing of the wall, straightening it back to its original state. Purchasing a new home can be overwhelming, but thanks to MidAmerica Basement Systems, Jed can rest assure that he has a dry, stable basement now, and that it is done right.
