Leveling and Protecting a Sunken Driveway in Davenport, IA
Challenge
Rich was concerned with his driveway. Every time it rained, the ground from underneath the concrete would wash away. This led to the driveway to sinking, and even cracking in some areas due to the weight of the concrete. He was unsure of how to fix his problem, because he knew that mudjacking would only wash out over time, leaving him in the same position he was now. And he feared the idea of re-pouring a new driveway because of the cost of repair. He reached out to MidAmerica Basement Systems in hopes of a new solution.
Solution
Design specialist, Cole, had a great solution for Rich. PolyLevel, which is a similar technique to mudjacking, offers a more permanent solution. PolyLevel is a lightweight, waterproof material that lifts, levels, and stabilizes sunken concrete. With it being lightweight, it will prevent future washouts, providing a longer-lasting solution than mudjacking. PolyLevel fills the voids that have been created by the washouts, and expands to lift the concrete. Within minutes, PolyLevel cures, giving the concrete a new and stable placement. For the areas of the driveway that have not yet been affected by washouts, NexusPro Joint Sealant was applied. NexusPro is a flexible seal that moves with the natural shifts in the concrete during cold and dry seasons. It is made with polyurethane mixture to prevent the sealant from drying out and cracking, and allows from water to bypass the cracks, preventing the washouts of the ground underneath. Rich now has a cost-effective, long-lasting, solution to a once again, leveled driveway.
