Protect Your Basement Walls from Water Intrusion
Concrete basement walls are susceptible to cracking based on their location. The size of the crack can vary from very small hairline cracks to much larger cracks, and they can continue to grow as your foundation walls shift. No matter the size of the crack, water can seep through even the tiniest of wall cracks and cause water damage in your basement.
Aside from wall cracks, water can also seep in through any voids in your concrete block walls. Water is a very intrusive force and can easily enter your basement through any crack or void in the walls, so it’s important to waterproof your basement to prevent this from happening. Our basement experts at MidAmerica can install waterproofing products to ensure water stays completely out of your basement.
Repairing Leaky Basement Walls
Depending on the specific problem, there are a few different approaches we can take to repair your leaky basement walls. We offer several different products and services to tackle specific problems, such as a sump pump, perimeter drainage system, or a vapor barrier. No matter what the problem is, your basement experts at MidAmerica can fix it!
11. Install a Basement Sump Pump and Battery Backup
A sump pump works around the clock to protect your basement from water intrusion. We can install a quality sump pump along with a durable liner to flush out all water before it enters your basement. In the case of a power outage, we also install battery backup sump pumps that will automatically kick on if the main sump pump fails due to a power outage. A battery backup sump pump should also be included to ensure that your sump pump can run during power outages or a blown fuse. A battery backup sump pump can also offer you protection if your primary sump pump fails for any reason.
22. Dig Perimeter Trench and Drill Weep Holes
To properly funnel the water to the sump pump, a trench must be dug around the perimeter of your basement. Water will flow through this trench and enter your sump pump, where it will be discarded outside of your home.
33. Install Perimeter Drainage System
Installing a perimeter drainage system will help direct any water that enters your basement to the sump pump. It is made of PVC pipe and lines the perimeter of your basement to collect any water as it enters. It is installed on top of a bed of crushed stone and cemented on top, allowing water to easily flow through it as it blends in with your floor for a nice disguise.
44. Cover Block Walls with Vapor Barrier
The final step is to completely protect your basement walls from water intrusion with a vapor barrier. It is a thick, durable liner that lines your basement walls to prevent any moisture from entering the space. It can easily be installed along with our other waterproofing products to give your basement complete protection from water. One effective and cost-efficient way to prevent wet concrete walls from leading to a damp space is to install a waterproof vapor barrier on the walls. These vapor barriers can be combined with our perimeter drainage system, tucking into the wall flange to direct any water entering from the basement walls into the drainage system.
