Photo Album: Dangerous Basement Made Safe in Davenport, IA

Gary H. in Davenport wanted to repair some cracks he noticed in the basement as well as the glaring issue of bowing foundation walls. MidAmerica Basement Systems sent out a design specialist, Mac McDaniel, who inspected the space and gave Gary a free estimate. Eager to have the basement repaired permanently, Gary gave his stamp of approval. With lead foreman Jordan Strutt, the team began the project by addressing the most pertinent issue which was the bowing walls. The team installed the PowerBrace system to two of the bowing walls. The other bowing wall was stabilized with Geo-Lock Wall Anchors. The team finally stabilized the last wall which was not bowing, but needed to be secured, with the CarbonArmor system. The MidAmerica Basement team was able to stabilize all of the foundation walls and with PowerBrace and Geo-Lock Wall systems, the walls bowing conditions will be improved over time.

A closer look shows that although the CarbonAmor is a strong and extremely effective wall stabilizing product, but it has a surprising low-profile which homeowners really like because they can paint over the CarbonArmors to allow for basement finishing. A closer look also show where the old stair-step cracks were but now are repaired and sealed.

Geo-Lock Wall Anchors

Geo-Lock Wall Anchors are another great product for stabilizing foundation walls. The team digs a small hole a few feet from the foundation walls. A galvanized steel rod is drilled through a 1" hole in the basement wall and is connected to an earth anchor within the augured hole. A plate is is placed on the interior of the basement wall is secured to rod. The hole is then filled, and when the system is completely installed and tightened, the wall is permanently stabilized.

Geo-Lock have the ability to have 10 times more contact with the soil, resulting in more holding power. Another great aspect of the Geo-Lock is it's ability to also tighten during the dry seasons, improving the walls condition.
