Interior Slab Lifting for Home in Cedar Rapids, IA
Challenge
Dennis was having issues with his basement floor sinking, causing large foundation cracks. During investigation of the causing of the sloping, Dennis had discovered that the rock and fill under the slab had sunk, causing a large void under the concrete. Due to the large void, the weight of the home on the concrete was beginning to crack, causing great concern to him. He reached out to MidAmerica Basement Systems to have an expert come in and inject PolyLevel.
Solution
Design specialists evaluated the situation and calculated the amount of PolyLevel that would be needed to properly lift and level the sunken slab. Small 5/8 inch holes were drilled along the cracked concrete to inject PolyLevel. PolyLevel filled the large void and expanded to raise the slab, creating a permanent solution to the area. The quick reaction time allowed for Richard and his crew to effectively lift the slab, preventing them from over-lifting. Because PolyLevel is so lightweight, roughly 4lbs per cubic foot, less stress is applied to the failed rock and fill that was originally installed under the concrete. After the slab was lifted, NexusPro Joint Sealant was applied to all the cracks, providing a permanent seal and to prevent any future water leaks through the cracks. Thanks to the help from MidAmerica Basement Systems team, James now has a level basement floor once again.
