Sinking Walkways to Mausoleum are Lifted with Injection Technology in Dubuque, IA
Challenge
John is the superintendent at Mount Calvary Cemetery and was concerned for those who visited loved ones at the mausoleum. The Mausoleum was built in the 1960’s and overtime, the walkways had shifted and sunk, leaving tripping hazards, and making an unpleasant appeal. He couldn’t re-pour the concrete, for that would disturb the peace of those who are buried there, and it would take too long to cure, leaving the area inaccessible to visitors. He looked to mudjacking, but again that could take days, even weeks to cure before visitors could access the area. He still had no answer to making the walkways to the mausoleum safer and more appealing. He finally found relief when he met with systems design specialist, James of MidAmerica Basement Systems.
Solution
James discussed the benefits of injecting PolyLevel to the areas that have sunk, allowing for precise and accurate lifts. PolyLevel uses small injection ports, smaller than a dime, to allow the solution to fill the voids, and react to lift the concrete. The solution is made of high-density polymers that are lightweight to avoid unwanted pressure or stress to the rest of the mausoleum structure. PolyLevel has the lifting force of 2,000 to 4,000 pounds per square foot, with quick reaction times for the accurate leveling needed for the mausoleum. The quick reaction time not only allows for accurate results, but also allows for the injected areas to be accessed within minutes. This prevents visitors for having to wait days, even weeks on end to visit loved ones. PolyLevel is a waterproof material that will not washout from moisture, and will not rot or deteriorate over time. It provides a long-lasting stabilization for sunken concrete. To protect all other areas that were not injected with PolyLevel, a NexusPro Joint Sealant was also applied to the cracks to prevent future washouts of the soil underneath. PolyLevel has given the mausoleum level walking grounds once again, and has helped increase the appearance of the area. In a day’s time, visitors had a leveled area, allowing for future visits over and over again.
