Basement Built in 1920's is Waterproofed in Galesburg, IL
Challenge
From Galesburg, Pier D. was utterly frustrated with their old, damp and smelly basement. The experts at MidAmerica Basement Systems was contacted and the homeowner spoke to the Appointment Center Manager, Jennifer Abel, and explained that their basement has old drainage system from c.1920 and that it continually backs up and bubbles up from floor, sometimes bringing in some sewage. Pier further expressed that this water intrusion is made worse during the rainy season and when upstairs shower is in use. Pier understood that their basement was never waterproofed and needed the team to remedy their damp basement woes. The team sent Design Specialist, Dan Garner, to provide Pier with a thorough inspection of the property and give Pier an estimate at no cost to Pier. With a clear understanding of what needed to be done, Pier gave the team the go ahead!
Solution
The project was led by Primary Foreman, Justin Bailey. The team installed CleanSpace liner to the basement walls. The 20 mil thick liner with a polyester cord reinforcement inside making it strong and durable. CleanSpace also has an antimicrobial additive that resists mold growth while also acting as a vapor barrier. CleanSpace is designed to drain wall leaks into the WaterGuard perimeter drainage system. WaterGuard is designed not to clog as it sits on top of the footing and has a built in 3/8 –inch gap between the floor and the wall to properly drain wall leaks. The team also installed SuperSump which includes a cast iron pump, liner, airtight lid with airtight floor drain, CleanPump Stand, and WaterWatch alarm system. With the SuperSump the team also installed UltraSump battery back-up pumping system with charging/control box with alarm and 120 amp sealed maintenance-free battery. The team installed IceGuard which ejects water away from the foundation floor in the event of a frozen discharge line. The team was able to help this homeowner reclaim their basement by making it better equipped to handle repeated water intrusion.
